Should my boyfriend be angry because I decided to get another German Shepherd after my dog died?

My boyfriend of 3 months is upset because I have made the decision to get another German Shepherd dog without consulting him first. I am a 40 year old professional woman, I own my own home and we live separately. I had my dog for 11 years and really miss her. I would like to get another one.
Is this a normal reaction he is having or does it signal a red flag?

If your boyfriend is not living in the house with you and he is not paying the mortgage or rent, he has no authority over whether or not you get another animal. Unless he is planning to marry you and take charge of some of your business affairs as well as to live under the same roof with you, then he needs to keep his opinion about the pets, people and things you have decided to have in your home to himself.
