Dog Attack

Dog Attack

$93.99

Dog attacks are attacks on humans by feral or domestic dogs. With the close association of dogs and humans in daily life (largely as pets), dog attacks with injuries from usually very minor to significant, and very occasionally severe to fatal are not uncommon. Attacks on the serious end of the spectrum have become the focus of increasing media and public attention in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. It is estimated that two percent of the US population, 4.7 million people, are bitten each year. In the 1980s and 1990s the US averaged 17 fatalities per year, while in the 2000s this has increased to 26. 77 of dog bites are from the pet of family or friends, and 50 of attacks occur on the dog owners property. There is considerable debate on whether or not certain breeds of dogs are inherently more prone to commit attacks causing serious injury (i.e., so driven by instinct and breeding that, under certain circumstances, they are exceedingly likely to attempt or commit dangerous attacks). Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 110 Publication Date: 2009/11/25 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.26 inches

Acute Care Homeopathy for Muscle Injuries

There are more than 600 muscles in the human body, and they are subject to a wide variety of injuries. 4.5 million US doctor visits each year are for simple strain and sprain type injuries. Serious trauma from falls and traffic accidents contribute even more muscle injuries. The pain, suffering, limited mobility, lost work and sleepless nights range from annoying to debilitating. Acute Care Homeopathy for Muscle Injuries presents a brief introduction to homeopathy for acute care and outlines the key remedies used in safe and effective treatment of muscle injuries and accompanying symptoms. Originally conceived as a series for health care professionals, therapists, and trainers, this Acute Care book series presents homeopathic remedies that are proven to be useful for specific acute situations. Temporomandibular Joint Injuries During Whiplash

Temporomandibular Joint Injuries During Whiplash

$132.24

Whiplash injuries occur due to differential accelerations in the human body. Neck injuries predominate, but a considerable body of clinical evidence suggesting a close relationship between whiplash and TemporoMandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders has also accumulated. However, the potential injury mechanisms are poorly understood. This book presents the development of sledtesting of a physical model of the head, neck and mandible designed to simulate in vivo behaviour in a low velocity rear end collision. The sled test results are combined with tensile tests on cadaveric TMJ specimens to show that excessive levels of mouth opening do not occur during low velocity whiplash conditions. Active bracing of the jaw muscles prevents mouth opening. A twodimensional computational model was also developed, showing good correspondence to the experimental tests. A parametric analysis using the model indicated that normal geometric variations are unlikely to significantly alter the predicted results from the experimental testing. The results from this work conflict with the inertial injury theory for the TMJ during whiplash. Risk Analysis of Coal Miners Injuries

Risk Analysis of Coal Miners Injuries

$100.37

Occupational injuries in mines represent a major problem of public health with serious social and economical consequences. The 20th century has experienced a considerable amount of success in coal mines safety across the globe. To further improve the safety standards in coal mines, application of risk analysis tools is necessary to identify and quantify potential hazards and to suggest effective solutions. Moreover, research on behavioral factors represents a promising approach to the improvement of workers safety. The public health approach based on the scientific methods of injury epidemiology has been explored as a risk analysis tool in this study. In this research work, an epidemiological investigation based on a matched casecontrol study design was conducted to examine the role of occupational factors including job hazardsrelated factors and individual factors including behavioral factors, lifestyle factors and healthrelated factors to the occurrences of injuries in underground coal mines. This work will be useful to occupational health and safety professionals, researchers, and students to apply the concept of injury epidemiology in field investigations. Acquired Brain Injuries Working Memory

Acquired Brain Injuries Working Memory

$111.53

The effect of strategy training on working memory inchildren with acquired brain injuries was investigated. Six children between the ages of 8and 14 years completed three pre and postintervention tasks. The children began by completing three memory worksheets, and were thentaught a range of strategies aimed to enhance their working memory recall. This wasfollowed, a few weeks later, with the post intervention task, where the children completed threesimilar worksheets. The children were again asked to report the strategies they used foreach task. The task performances were compared across the two conditions, and thestrategies reported within each condition were also analysed to see if they correlated with any ofthe findings. The results indicated that there was asignificant increase across the two conditions, withthe children scoring higher in their working memorytests in the post intervention task. This finding provides evidence that strategy trainingincreases working memory, supporting much of the previous literature in the field.
