When your dog is prescribed a certain medication from the vet?

When your dog is prescribed a certain medication from the vet and they say that long term use can cause Kidney problems, what do they consider to be long term use? My Chihuahua Bear is on and Antibiotic called Tobramycin, for an eye injury. When I went online to check the description of the medication, it said that long term use, can cause Kidney Failure in dogs. Bear is seeing the vet again in the morning and I will talk to the vet about it, but I was just wondering if anyone knew how long is considered long term use! Thanks!
Hi Poppy! Bear is on Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution.They are eyedrops! The vet said it’s an Antibiotic. She was also put on Atropine for pain. The Tobramycin she takes 1 drop in the eye every 6 hours or 4 times a day! The Atropine she takes 1 drop once a day! The vet did not say how long he was going to keep her on the meds.

Keep in mind this info is for injectable tobramycin which causes more side effects.It states nephrotoxicity(kidney failure) is usually reversible.Long term use is over a month
