What should I do for my dogs feet?

Yesterday I took my dog to a dog run that we have never been before. They had the field covered small smooth rocks instead of the ordinary, something like sand or grass. After ten minutes of zooming around it no longer wanted to play. I looked at his feet, because he looked uncomfortable running on the rocks after a while, and loose Its front legs were almost completely skin. There was no blood …. just a big flap of skin that had been raised very very red and irritated skin underneath. he could not walk on barefoot. I called a phone line and told me not to cut the excess skin, but to force the feet and not leave to walk on hot cement. It always looks so uncomfortable when walking … there anyhting I can do for him? Has anyone experienced this before?
