Off-leash beaches in OC, Ca (other than that little strip on long beach?)?

I’m thinking about moving to the OC from NY–one consideration is how my older dog would make the move. Are there fun places for dogs to go in the OC? Now we go jogging in Central Park and swimming in the East River occasionally; also, there’s lots of dog runs for dogs and their owners to socialize. How does the OC compare?

Huntington Beach has a dog beach that is so popular it is hard to find parking. The meters cost so much they even allow you to pay with a credit card so you don’t have to bring a roll of quarters. The people are friendly enough. The only thing that might bother your older dog at the beach in HB is the gradual paved incline he would have to walk down and back up. The dog beach is at the bottom of a sea cliff. When I first moved to this area 2 years ago and didn’t have anybody to spend Christmas morning with I went to the HB dog park and was surprised at the number of people there. Watching the dogs play cheered me up.
If you are renting you might have a hard time finding a place that allows dogs. It seems to be very common here.
I live in Long Beach and it has been named one of the top 10 dog friendly cities in the US. For a city the size of LB we have lots of dog parks and more parades involving dogs than I can count.
