Cat door for my cat?

At night my cat likes to go in and out of my bedroom throughout the entire night; back and forth, in and out. It gets annoying having to wake up to let her in and out. I’d leave my bedroom door open, but I don’t like doing that. Plus, the dog sneaks into my room and eats her food, so I have to keep my door shut during the day so the dog doesn’t get in, which bothers the cat. I was looking at cat-doors on amazon.com and saw this one…

My question: Have any of you used a cat door and what was your experience with it? How was the installation? My bedroom door is made of solid wood, so I’m afraid it’d be hard to install.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Oh, and my dog is a German Shepherd, so she wouldn’t be able to get through the cat door.
One of my main concerns is noise control… do these things let noise travel easily?
